Weedsnotonlyaffectthewall'simage,butwillalsospeedupitscollapse,astheirrootsgrowintothecracksinthebricks.Thesepast30years,MrMeiJingtianhasbeenpullingweedsthroughoutthissectionoftheGreatWall.
Aftersixlongyearsofhardworkbysurveyorsandarchaeologists,in2012,theStateAdministrationofCulturalHeritageinChinaannouncedthefinaldatathatthetotallengthoftheGreatWallofChinais21,196.18kilometres.ThisisequivalenttothedistancebetweentheNorthandSouthPolesontheearthssurface.Thisisclearlyanastonishingfigure,foritisfourtimeslongerthanwhathasbeendescribedinthetextbooksofChinaasthe"WanliChangcheng(10,000-mileLongWall)oftheQinDynasty.
Since2006,MrMei,togetherwithsurveyorsandarchaeologicalexperts,hasbeenmeasuringthissectionoftheGreatWall.This,obviously,isatoughbutfuntask.Forthelast30years,thisordinaryelderlymanhasbeentakingcareoftheGreatWallinhisownsimplemanner.
