Abstract:
Withadvancementoftechnologythingsarebecomingsimplerandeasierforus.Automaticsystemsarebeingpreferredovermanualsystem.ThisunittalksaboutthebasicdefinitionsneededtounderstandtheProjectbetterandfurtherdefinesthetechnicalcriteriatobeimplementedasapartofthisproject.

I.NTRODUCTION
Ahomeautomationsystemintegrateselectricaldevicesinahousewitheachother.Thetechniquesemployedinhomeautomationincludethoseinbuildingautomationaswellasthecontrolofdomesticactivities,suchashomeentertainmentsystems,houseplantandyardwatering,petfeeding,changingtheambiance"scenes"fordifferentevents(suchasdinnersorparties),andtheuseofdomesticrobots.Devicesmaybeconnectedthroughacomputernetworktoallowcontrolbyapersonalcomputer,andmayallowremoteaccessfromtheinternet.Typically,anewhomeisoutfittedforhomeautomationduringconstruction,duetotheaccessibilityofthewalls,outlets,andstoragerooms,andtheabilitytomakedesignchangesspecificallytoaccommodatecertaintechnologies.Wirelesssystemsarecommonlyinstalledwhenoutfittingapre-existinghouse,astheyreducewiringchanges.Thesecommunicatethroughtheexistingpowerwiring,radio,orinfraredsignalswithacentralcontroller.NetworksocketsmaybeinstalledineveryroomlikeACpowerreceptacles.AlthoughautomatedhomesofthefuturehavebeenstapleexhibitsforWorld'sFairsandpopularbackgroundsinsciencefiction,complexity,competitionbetweenvendors,multiplencompatiblestandardsandtheresultingexpensehavelimitedthepenetrationofhomeautomationtohomesofthewealthyorambitioushobbyists.
II.HOMEAUTOMATION
Home/officeautomationisthecontrolofanyorallelectricaldevicesinourhomeoroffice,whetherwearethereoraway.Home/officeautomationisoneofthemostexcitingdevelopmentsintechnologyforthehomethathascomealongindecades.Therearehundredsofproductsavailabletodaythatallowuscontroloverthedevicesautomatically,eitherbyremotecontrol;orevenbyvoicecommand.Homeautomation(alsocalleddomotics)istheresidentialextensionof"buildingautomation".Itisautomationofthehome,houseworkorhouseholdactivity.Homeautomationmayincludecentralizedcontroloflighting,HVAC(heating,ventilationandairconditioning),appliances,andothersystems,toprovideimprovedconvenience,comfort,energyefficiencyandsecurity.Disabledcanprovideincreasedqualityoflifeforpersonswhomightotherwiserequirecaregiversorinstitutionalcare.Earlier,welookedintothefaceoffuturewhenwetalkedaboutautomateddevices,whichcoulddoanythingoninstigationofacontroller,buttodayithasbecomeareality.
III.NEEDOFAUTOMATION
Withadvancementoftechnologythingsarebecomingsimplerandeasierforus.Automationistheuseofcontrolsystemsandinformationtechnologiestoreducetheneedforhumanworkintheproductionofgoodsandservices.Inthescopeofindustrialization,automationisastepbeyondmechanization.Whereasmechanizationprovidedhumanoperatorswithmachinerytoassistthemwiththemuscularrequirementsofwork,automationgreatlydecreasestheneedforhumansensoryandmentalrequirementsaswell.Automationplaysanincreasinglyimportantroleintheworldeconomyandindailyexperience.Automaticsystemsarebeingpreferredovermanualystem.Throughthisprojectwehavetriedtoshowautomaticcontrolofahouseasaresultofwhichpowerissavedtosomeextent.
a)Anautomateddevicecanreplacegoodamountofhumanworkingforce,moreoverhumansaremorepronetoerrorsandinintensiveconditionstheprobabilityoferrorincreaseswhereas,anautomateddevicecanworkwithdiligence,versatilityandwithalmostzeroerror.
Replacinghumanoperatorsintasksthatinvolvehardphysicalormonotonouswork.
Replacinghumansintasksdoneindangerousenvironments(i.e.fire,space,volcanoes,nuclearfacilities,underwater,etc)
Performingtasksthatarebeyondhumancapabilitiesofsize,weight,speed,endurance,etc.
Economyimprovement.Automationmayimproveineconomyofenterprises,societyormostofhumankind.Forexample,whenanenterprisethathasinvestedinautomationtechnologyrecoversitsinvestment,orwhenastateorcountryincreasesitsincomeduetoautomationlikeGermanyorJapaninthe20thCentury.
b)Thisiswhythisprojectlooksintoconstructionandimplementationofasysteminvolvinghardwaretocontrolavarietyofelectricalandelectronicssystem.
IV.SUPPYUNIT
A.Transformer:
Themainsourceofpower(Fig1)supplyisatransformer.Themaximumoutputpowerofpowersupplyisdependentonmaximumoutputpoweroftransformer.Wedeterminepowerfromitscurrentandvoltagerating.e.g.:
ifthereisatransformerof12V,500mAthenmaximumpowerdeliveredbytransformeris6Watt.
Itmeanswecandrivealoadfromthistransformerupto6w.Inourprojectourmaximumpowerrequirementis1watt.Sotoprovidethispowerweuse12V/250mAtransformer.Themaximumoutputpowerofthistransformeris4watt.itmeansitcaneasilydriveloadupto4watt.
B.Rectifier
Rectifierisacircuitwhichisusedtoconvertactodc.
Everyelectroniccircuitrequiresadcpowersupplyforrectification.Wehaveusedfourdiodes.
C.Inputfilter:
Afterrectificationweobtaindcsupplyfromacbutitisnotpuredcitmayhavesomeacripples.Toreducetheseripplesweusefilters.Itcomprisesoftwofilters–lowfrequencyripplefilterandhighfrequencyripplefilter.Toreducelowfrequencyripplesweuseelectrolyticcapacitor.Thevoltageratingofcapacitormustbedoublefromincomingdcsupply.Itblocksdcandpassesripplestoground.
D.Regulator
Initialstageofeveryelectroniccircuitispowersupplysystemwhichprovidesrequiredpowertodrivethewholesystem.Thespecificationofpowersupplydependsonthepowerrequirementandthisrequirementisdeterminedbyitsrating.Themaincomponentsusedinsupplysystemare.
Regulatorisadevicewhichprovidesconstantoutputvoltagewithvaryinginputvoltage.Therearetwotypesofregulators
(a)Fixedvoltageregulator
(b)Adjustableregulator
WehaveusedfixedvoltageregulatorLM78XXlasttwodigitssignifyoutputvoltage.Thevoltageforoursystemis5Vthatiswhywehaveused7805regulatorwhichprovides5Vfrom12Vdc.
E.Outputfilter:
Itisusedtofilteroutoutputrippleifany.
F.Outputindication
WeuseLEDtoobservethefunctioningofoursystem.IfheLEDglowsitconfirmsproperfunctioningofoursupply.Wehaveusedfourpowersupplyunits.
Thissupplyisforthemicrocontroller,displayandrelayunit.Themicrocontrollerrequires5voltsupplytoperformanydesiredtask.
G.ControlUnit
TwocontrolunitswereusedoneforinternalsystemandoneforexternalsystemandthesecontrolunitbasedonATMEL’sAT89S52microcontroller(Fig2).Thegivencaptureshowsthepinsandbasicrequirementofmicrocontrollertomakeitfunctional.Detaileddescriptionofthecontrolleris100uf/50v.
Inaddition,theAT89S52isdesignedwithstaticlogicforoperationdowntozerofrequencyandsupportstwosoftwareelectablepowersavingmodes.TheIdleModestopstheCPU
whileallowingtheRAM,timer/counters,serialport,andinterruptsystemtocontinuefunctioning.
ModesavestheRAMcontentsbutfreezestheoscillator,disablingallotherchipfunctionsuntilthenextinterruptorhardwarereset.
TheDownloadableFlashcanbechangedasinglebyteatatimeandisaccessiblethroughtheSPIserialinterface.HoldingRESETactiveforcestheSPIbusintoaserialprogramminginterfaceandallowstheprogrammemorytobewrittentoorreadfromunlessLockBit2hasbeenactivated.
