Computersplayanimportantroleinmodernsocietyandcomputershavebecomesopowerfulthatsomecomputerprogramscaneventranslatenearlyallkindsoflanguages.Therefore,somepeoplesuggestthatitisnotnecessaryforchildrentolearnforeignlanguages.Thisopinionseemstobepossible,butIdisagreewithitforthefollowingthreereasons.
Firstofall,childrenneedtolearnforeignlanguageswellbecausealanguageisthemostimportantmeansofcommunication.Withtheprocessofeconomicglobalization,itisnecessarytostrengthenthecooperationamongdifferentnationsandcountries.Asdifferentcountriesusedifferentlanguages,peoplecannotcommunicatewithoneanotheriftheydonotknowthelanguagesofothers.Asthefactshowsacomputerwithapracticaltranslationsoftwareisnotalwaysavailable.Inordertohavesufficientgoodcommunication,notonlychildren,asthefutureoftheworld,butalsowehavetolearnforeignlanguageswell.
Inaddition,languagestudycangiveusmuchmorethanthelanguageitself.Languageisverycloselyrelatedtoacountry’sculture,history,andevenreligion.Childrencanknowthecultureofacountrythroughlanguagestudyandsometimescanhavefunwithit.Forexample,theycometoloveSantaClaus,andknowthatjealousyisoneofChristianity’ssevensinsandisnotsomethingtheyshoulddoaccordingtotheirexposuretotheEnglishlanguageitself.Tolearnaforeignlanguageisalsotolearnawayofthinkingandphilosophyofworkandlife.
Admittedly,insomecases,computersbringsomeadvantagestous.Sometranslationcomputerprogramscangiveusaninstantexplanationofnewwordswhenwereadsomeforeignarticles,whichcanhelpussavealotoftime,onlywhen,however,ourfoundationinaforeignlanguagehasnotbeenneglected.Afactcannotbeneglectedisthatcomputerprogramsaredesignedandwrittenbyhumanbeings.Peoplecannotdesignefficienttranslationprogramsiftherearenopeoplelearningforeignlanguages.Withoutawideunderstandingofalanguageandtranslation,howcouldhumanbeingsdevelopefficienttranslationsystemswhicharebasedonit?

importantmeansofcommunication.Inordertohaveagoodunderstandingof

Inconclusion,itisquiteunderstandablethatpeoplefromdifferentbackgroundshavedifferentattitudetowardsforeignlanguagelearningbecauseoftheirdifferentexperiences,perspectivesaswellasemotionalconcerns.However,aftertakingallfactorsintoaccount,itisnothardforustocometotheconclusionthatnotonlychildrenbutalsoweneedtogoonlearningforeignlanguagesunderthesituationofeconomyglobalization.Fortheexistingcomputertechnology,computerscannotreplacetheprocessoflanguagesstudy.Itisalsoadmittedthatlearningaforeignlanguagewellisnotasmallcase.However,itisnotaquestionofwhether-or-notbutoneofhow-to.
