Meanwhile,thedevelopmentcoincides(类似)withChina’slargestoffshorewindfarm,JiangsuQidong,whichreachedfulloperationadaylater.Atatotalof802MW,JiangsuQidongisbehindeitherHornseastage,butitistwicethesizeoftheexistingoffshorewindfarmoutsideEurope.NorthAmericanwindfarmsusuallystandardizewithasinglesizeofturbine,butJiangsuQidongusessevenmodels.
NeitherHornseanorJiangsuQidongcomparestothegiantwindfarmsbeingdevelopedbyDenmarkandSouthKorea,andthemorepotentialgiantoffIceland.Evenbeforethosecometofruition,Hornsea’sthirdstage—with2,400MWsoontostartconstruction—willleavethemwellbehind.
Evenwithoperationsbeginningatthesewindfarms,offshorewindaccountsforlessthan10percentofglobalwindproduction.It’salsocurrentlymoreexpensive.However,pricesarefallingfasterforoffshore,asturbinesgetlargerandexperiencegrows.ItisanticipatedthatthenextroundofUKwindfarms,insteadofrequiringsubsidies(补贴),willreturnmoneytothepublic.
