Ofthe237studentsofEastChinaUniversityofScienceandTechnologywhoaredroppingoutofschoolortransferringtolessercollegesthisyear,80percentblametheiracademicfailureonexcessiveuseoftheInternet.
AtShanghaiJiaotongUniversity,someonethirdofthe205schooldropoutsthisyearsaytheendlesshoursspentbeforecomputershaveledtotheirfailureinstudies.
EasyandfastInternetconnectionsinstalledoncollegecampusesinrecentyearshaveprovidedgreatconvenienceforcollegestudents.ButmanystudentsaregettingcarriedawaybybecomingobsessivelyfondofsurfingtheWeb—daysandnights.
Apartfromaccessingemailsandlookingupdataonline,manystudentsspendhoursplayinginteractivegamesandchatting.
Readingandpostingarticlesoncollegebulletinboards(BBS)canalsoeatuphourseachnight.
SimilarproblemshavesurfacedinBeijing,whereWebconnectionsinstudentdormshavesofarbeentheprivilegeofarelativelysmallnumberofstudents,mostlypostgraduatestudentsfromleadinginstitutes.SomeofthemevenhavetoquitschoolbecauseoftheirobsessionwithbrowsingtheWeb.Theyskipalltheirclassesatthattimeandsatbeforethecomputerforatleast10hoursaday.
TheyspentmostoftheirtimeonlinechattingwithfriendsalloverthecountryusingthepopularsoftwareOICQ,orvisitingthecollegeBBS.
InternetcafesinBeijingusuallychargebetweenfiveandtenyuanperhour.Evenforstudentsfrombetter-offfamilies,spendingafewrelaxinghoursatthecafeforseveraldayscouldresultinaheavydeficitontheirmonthlybudget.
Andworsethingsareyettocome:
severalInternetbarsinBeijingwerefinedinearlyNovemberwhenpolicefoundpornographiccontentinthecomputers.Althoughmanyinternetcafesprohibittheircustomersfromvisitingpornsitesorplayinggamesonline,manycustomers,includingcollegestudents,managetodosoforhourseverynight.

2.Howtosolvethepersonalproblems
Somepeoplewhofindthemselvesunabletosolveaproblemreactbyjustgivingup.Butitisnotgoodtoescapefromproblemsbygivinguporbymakingexcusesforfailures.Youmaybesurethatallyoungpeoplegothroughthesamedifficultprocessthatyouaregoingthrough;meetingnewsituations,developingnewskills,andtestingtheirabilities.

Aboywhowantstobeagreatfootballplayermaybetoolightandnotquitefastenoughforfootball.Inthissituation,becomingagreatfootballplayermaybeanunreasonablegoalforhim.However,hemaybecomeoutstandingintennisorgolf,andsatisfyhisdesiretotakepartinsports.
