Content,FamilyValuesEducationValuesCareerValuesConsumptionValuesTimeValuesvaluesaboutsuccess,Family,AmericanparentsVSChineseparents,1)Americanparentsallowtheirdaughtersorsonstogooutwiththeirboyorgirlfriendsaslongastheycomehomeatthecertaincurfew.Chineseparentsusuallydontapproveofhavingrelationshipinmiddleorhighschool.2)AmericanparentssupportandencouragetheirchildrenatalltimeswhileChineseparentsthinkthatcriticismisthebestloveintheworld.3)Americanparentsonlylookattheirchildrensgoodside.Chineseparentsseemtoonlyseetheirchildrensbadside.,Americansstressonequalityandcompetition;therefore,theydonotconcernthemselveswithhierarchyandfaceInaddition,Americancultureisanindividualistculture,whereChinesecultureisahierarchicalone.Peopleinthetwoculturestreatandeducatetheirchildrendifferently.Chineseparentsregardtheirchildrenastheirpersonalpropertythattheycandealwithinthewaytheylike.Childrenwillbepunishedorevenbeatenwhentheydonotbehavethemselves.Inthedailylife,Chineseparentsmakealmostalldecisionsfortheirchildren.ThatexplainswhyChinesechildrenaremorelikelytoacceptwhatisgiven.Americanscannotunderstanditatall.TheyfeelconfusedatsuchatwistedChineselogic.,MarriageandDivorce,Traditionally,Americanyoungpeopleareexpectedtofindahusbandorwifeontheirown.MostAmericansbelievethatyoungpeopleshouldfallinloveandthendecidetomarrysomeonethattheycanlivehappilywith.AdivorceisrelativelyeasytoobtaininmostpartsoftheUSA.Moststateshave“no-fault”divorce,education,AmericanEducation,Americaneducationoffersarichfieldofchoicesfortheinternationalstudent.Fromabroad,andevenfromwithintheU.S.A.,thereissuchanarrayofinstitutions,programsandlocationsthatthechoicesmayoverwhelmthestudent.Tosimplifythechoices,astudentmustcarefullystudyhoweachprogramandlocationcanfulfillthestudentsgoals.Inordertomakeinformeddecisions,astudentwillneedtoknowhowtheU.S.educationsystemisorganized.,familyeducation,FamilytieinChineseissentiment.Chinesedealwithrelationshipswithinfamilybasedonkinsmenbyblood.Chinesefamiliesareaccustomedtoconservationvirtue,careabouteachotherandthenbuildtherelationship.WhileindividualismisthecentermoraleducationinAmericanfamily.Rationalityisthebasicprinciplesamongfamilyaffairs.,Chineseparentsaregoodatpersuasiveeducation.Theyliketoplanforchildreninafraidoftheywillsufferfrustration.InAmerica,teachersandparentsreachaconsensusthateducationshouldnotsetaplanforchildren,fortheworldischangeableandtheyshouldlearntofaceandsolvetroublebythemselves.,Familywillmakesacrificesforindividual.However,whentheyenjoyfreedom,equality,theymustbeinaccordancewiththebasicprinciplesofrationalbehavior,andatthesametimeshouldensureotherfamilymembersfreedom.ForAmerican,bringingupchildrenjustlikeothersocialobligationstheyshouldcommit.Afterchildrenbecome18,theycanleaveparentstodoparttimejobsandrentoutside.,career,career,Chineseapproachthatvalues“collectivism,maintenanceofinterpersonalharmony,reciprocity,placingothersneedsaheadofonesown,”anddeferencetoeldersandotherauthorityfigures.Trust,face,time,hierarchy,powerdistance,long-termorientationhasbeenidentifiedasthekeyChineseculturalvalues.Americanprizes“spontaneity/casualness,acceptabilityofquestioningauthority,promotionofpersonalaccomplishments,andtough,individualistic,andauthoritativeleadership,”whileChineseAmericansgenerallyvalue“self-control/discipline,obediencetoauthority,humility,andcollectivedecisionmaking.”Also,emotionalintelligenceisnthighonthelistofrespectedChinesevalues,thoughitisnecessaryintheAmericanworkplace.Instead,ChineseAmericansholdtechnicalacumenandarespectforhigherlearningabovethesofterworkskills.,FactorsInfluencingCareerValues,FamilyinfluencehasbeenfoundtobeoneofthemajorfactorsinfluencingChineseadolescentscareerdecisions.Chineseparentsimplicitlyorexplicitlyconveytheircareerexpectationstotheirchildren.It
