TheElectricihActof1989cameintoforcein
theUKinMarch1990.andthestate-ownedIelcctricitycompaniesweresubsequentlyfloated
ontheUKstockmarket.

communicationssystemforremotemetering.
TheRMSsystemusespowerlinecarrier
technologyandallowsfortwo-waydata
transmissionoverthelowvoltageandmedium
voltageelectricitydistributionnetwork.
Existinggasandwatermeterscanbemodified
slightlytoproduceanelectricaloutputandcan
beconnectedtotheelectricitymeter.PLC
technologyisusedtotransmittheinformation
tothesubstation.Atthesubstation.thesignals
