Abstract
ThisstudywastoanalyseMediaonthenegativeimpactofyoungpeople.ItwasrequestedonMay,2011.Theinvestigationwasfocusontheyoungwhounder22yearoldageanditaimedtoraisepeopleandgovernments'concernwhenmediapassinformationtotheaudience.ThroughusingquestionnairesandsecondarydataprovethatMediahavenegativeinfluencetotheyoungintermsofviolence,beauty,sexualityandtheFantasisingofthesupernatural.Therefore,irecommendthatMediashouldbeverycautiouswhenitdeliverstheinformationtotheaudience,alsotherecouldbeseveralmeasurestakenbythegovernmentsuchasthereinforcementoftheGovernment'sdemonstration.
1.Introduction
Thisreporthasbeenwrittenbecausetheinfluenceofmediahasgrownrapidlywiththeadvanceoftechnology.Therefore,theinfluenceofmediaonyoungpeoplehasbeenthesubjectofincreasedattentionamongparents,educatorsandhealthcareprofessional(AmericanAcademyofPediatrics(AAP),2001,p.1224).Intermsofthiscontroversialissue,istartedtocollectevidenceanddatatoevaluatewhethermediahavenegativeinfluenceonyoungpeopleandhowitworks.
Firstly,theobjectofthisreportaremediaandyoungpeople.Secondly,accordingtotheintroductionofDanieleAlbertazziandPaulCobley,"mediaisacollectionofindividualsorsmallgroupssendingmessagestootherindividuals,smallgroupsormuchlargergroups"(TheMediaanIntroduction,2010,p7).So,itcanbefilm,televisionprogram,videooradvertisementetcetera.Thirdly,theyounginthisreportrefertothepeoplewhobetween10-22yearoldagegroups.
Intheinvestigation,therewasaquestionnairewhichincludes15questions,andeachquestionwouldbeaskedto50personasagroup.Afterthat,allthedatawouldbeanalysedandshowedinthefollowingparts.Throughtheseevidencescanbeseenthatmediahasanegativeimpacttotheyoungintermsofviolence,beauty,sexualityandtheRenderingofthesupernatural.
2.Aims
1.Thisreportwastodemonstratethatmediaplaysaveryimportantroleincreatingawareness.However,asReneeHobbs(Newsweek,2001)addressedthatyoungpeoplecouldusemediaandtechnologydoesnotmeantheyareeffectivetoanalyseandevaluatethemessagecritically.Therefore,mediashouldbeverycautiouswhenitdeliverstheinformationtotheaudience.
2.Itisparentsresponsibilitytopayattentiontoyoungpeoplewhentheyusemedia,becausethisisaspecialperiodwhichtheylearntodistinguishrightfromwrong.Inaddition,asTheU.S.DepartmentofEducation'sOfficeofEducationalResearchandImprovementpublishedguidelines(1994)saidthatparentalmonitoringinveryimportantbecauseitcouldhelptheyoungfarawayfrombadbehaviorsandlearntomakedecisionsontheirown.
3.Thisreportwasalsoaimtoemphasizethatgovernmentshouldprotecttheyoungpeoplebytakingactions.AsJohnwillson(2009)saidthatinordertoprotectyoungchildreninthemodernsocietythereareseveralmeasuresshouldbetookbythegovernmentsuchasstrengthentheGovernment'sdemonstrationandguidance;enhancetheimageandstatusofthemedia;improvetheartist'saccomplishment.
3.Methodology
3.1primaryresearch
Forthisreport,theprimaryandsecondarydatawerebothusedinresearch.Inordertoinvestigatewhetherpeoplethinkmediahasnegativeinfluenceonyoungpeople,ipreparedaquestionnairewhichinclude15questionsaboutthemaintopic.Eachquestionwouldbeaskedto50person.TheinvestigationwassearchinginthecitycentreandInternationalStudyCentreofLeicester.Thelengthofresearchwaslast7days.Theageofalltheparticipantsrangefromabout10-50yearoldage.Duringthisprocess,participantsareaskedtochoosetheoptionswhichthequestionnairehadgiven,andthentheycouldwritedownextraanswers.Thatistosay,theyhadchoicetowriteotherfactorswhichtheythinkcanbetheanswers.Finally,theresultswouldbecollectedandanalysed.
3.2secondaryresearch
AsResearchingYoungPeople'sLives(2009)introducedthatintheUKthereisanabundanceofdatacouldbeusedandreusedbyyouthresearchers,includingofficialstatisticsandresearchreportsproducedbygovernmentdepartmentsandotheragencies.Therefore,thesecondarydatainthisreportwouldfromprofessionalwebsiteorbook.Inordertocollectedthem,therewereseveralbooksaboutmediaandmediahaveeffecttosocietyneedtoberead.Also,allthetermsaboutmediashouldbeknownandthebackgroundshouldbeunderstood.Then,from4aspectstofindthedatawhichareviolence,beauty,sexualityandtheFantasisingofthesupernatural.
4.Findings&Analysis
4.1primaryresearch
Intermsofthequestionnaire,theresultsasfollowing:
1.Thereare21malesand29femalesparticipatedinthisresearch.
2.2peoplein10-20agegroup,24peoplein20-30agegroup,18peoplein30-40a
agegroup,3peoplein40-50agegroupand3peoplein50oraboveagegroup.(Figure7)
3.47personcontactwithmediaeveryday,3personnearlyonceaweek.
4.Intermsofreliability,1staristheleastreliableand5starsisthemostreliable.3persongave2stars,20persongave3stars,23persongave4starsand4persongave5stars.
5.Thereare26personthoughttheadvantagesaremorethandisadvantageswhenyoungpeoplecontactwithmedia,and24personholdtheoppositeopinionswhichtheythoughtyoungpeoplewouldspenttoomuchtimeonmedia.
6.Thereare45personthoughtmediahavenegativeinfluencestosociety,especiallytotheyoung,while4personholdoppositeopinionswhichtheythoughtmediacanbetrusted.1personhavenoideaaboutthisissue.(Figure1)
7.43personthoughtthatyoungpeoplemayimitatethebadbehaviorsfrommediaandonly3personholdoppositeopinionswhichtheythoughtchildrenhaveself-controlability.(Figure10)
8.Intermsofthebadbehaviorswhichyoungpeoplemayimitate,43personchoseviolence,46personchosesexuality,24personchosemisunderstandingofbeauty,17personchosefantasyingofsupernaturaland5personholdotheropinionswhichtheythoughttheotherfactorscanbeobesity,puffiness,purchasingluxurygoodsandshowing-offthemselves.(Figure2)

Ascanbeseenfromtheresultsthatmostpeople(94%)contactwithmediaeveryday,and93%persongave3-5starstoshowthereliabilityofmedia.Therefore,wecananalysedthatmediaisveryimportantandauthoritativetoaudience.Therewere86%personthinkyoungpeoplemayimitatethebadbehaviorsfrommediawhileothersthinkchildrenhaveself-controlability.AccordingtoFigure1,90%personagreewithmediahasnegativeimpactontheyoung,but8%personthinkmediacanbetrusted.Intermsofthebadbehaviorswhichmaybeimitatedbytheyoung,figure2shownthatthehighestvoteisviolenceandsexualityandmisunderstandingofbeauty,fantas
