animportantworkofeconomicandsocialtheorybyAdamSmith(aScottishphilosopherandeconomist),publishedin1776.ItsfulltitlewasAnInquiryintotheNatureandCausesoftheWealthofNations.Initheanalyzedtherelationshipbetweenworkandtheproductionofanation'swealth.Hisconclusionwasthatthebesteconomicsituationresultsfromencouragingfreeenterprise(aneconomicsysteminwhichthereisopencompetitioninbusinessandtrade,andnogovernmentcontrol).ThisideahashadagreatinfluenceoneconomictheoriessinceanditformedthebasisoftheeconomicpoliciesoftheConservativegovernmentinBritaininthe1980s.
4.TheNationalCouncilofTeachersofMathematics
