isanEnglishtheoreticalphysicistandcosmologist,whosescientificbooksandpublicappearanceshavemadehimanacademiccelebrity.HeisanHonoraryFellowoftheRoyalSocietyofArts,alifetimememberofthePontificalAcademyofSciences,andin2009wasawardedthePresidentialMedalofFreedom,thehighestcivilianawardintheUnitedStates.
HawkingwastheLucasianProfessorofMathematicsattheUniversityofCambridgefor30years,takingupthepostin1979andretiringon1October2009.HeisnowDirectorofResearchattheCentreforTheoreticalCosmologyintheDepartmentofAppliedMathematicsandTheoreticalPhysicsattheUniversityofCambridge.HeisalsoaFellowofGonvilleandCaiusCollege,CambridgeandaDistinguishedResearchChairatthePerimeterInstituteforTheoreticalPhysicsinWaterloo,Ontario.Heisknownforhiscontributionstothefieldsofcosmologyandquantumgravity,especiallyinthecontextofblackholes.Hehasalsoachievedsuccesswithworksofpopularscienceinwhichhediscusseshisowntheoriesandcosmologyingeneral;theseincludetherunawaybestsellerABriefHistoryofTime,whichstayedontheBritishSundayTimesbest-sellerslistforarecord-breaking237weeks.
2.Frankenstein:
isanovelaboutafailedartificiallifeexperimentthatproducedamonster,writtenbyMaryShelley.Shelleystartedwritingthestorywhenshewaseighteen,andthenovelwaspublishedwhenshewastwenty-one.ThefirsteditionwaspublishedanonymouslyinLondonin1818.Shelley'snameappearsonthesecondedition,publishedinFrancein1823.
3.TheskyatNight:
isamonthlydocumentarytelevisionprogrammeonastronomyproducedbytheBBC.Theshowhashadthesamepermanentpresenter,SirPatrickMoore,fromitsfirstairingon24April1957,makingitthelongest-runningprogrammewiththesamepresenterintelevisionhistory.
4.AlbertEinstein:
wasaGerman-borntheoreticalphysicistwhodevelopedthetheoryofgeneralrelativity,effectingarevolutioninphysics.Forthisachievement,Einsteinisoftenregardedasthefatherofmodernphysicsandoneofthemostprolificintellectsinhumanhistory.Hereceivedthe1921NobelPrizeinPhysics"forhisservicestotheoreticalphysics,andespeciallyforhisdiscoveryofthelawofthephotoelectriceffect".Thelatterwaspivotalinestablishingquantumtheorywithinphysics.
